Passenger Trains > Railfanning in Lyndhurst, NJ Late January, Early Feb 2025Date: 02/02/25 15:02 Railfanning in Lyndhurst, NJ Late January, Early Feb 2025 Author: Passfanatic The past two weekends, I spent time railfanning in Lyndhurst, NJ. The objective was to take advantage of the winter sunlight at Kingsland Station which enables okay shots of eastbounds with the former Lackawanna Kingsland Station building above the tracks. I know that I said this before on trainorders but will mention it again. Kingsland Station is scheduled to close this coming Spring because of a couple of reasons. First, with Kingsland Station is deficient all across the board-curvy tracks preventing high level platforms, no elevators, excessive cracks in the steps, and station building in anemic shape. Next, Lyndhurst Station, a low level platform facility presently located at Stuyvesant Avenue, is relocating a tenth of a mile to the east to a spot connected to Delafield Ave which will be a lot more ADA accessible-there will be high level platforms and elevators. With Lyndhurst and Kingsland Station presently already 6/10ths of a mile between each other, the present Lyndhurst Station will be moving only closer to Ridge Road, where Kingsland Station presently sits. I went to photograph in Lyndhurst on 1/25/25 and 2/1/25.
Here are the pictures that I took on 1/25/25 1. Looking west at Kingsland Sta as more passengers are heading down and waiting to board NJT Train # 1710 2. That unused side track on the south side of the main was once the lead into Benedict Steel company / DL&W Kingsland car shops. It also provided the access to the Kingsland branch down to the Morristown Line in Kearny. There used to be a plethora of manufacturers / shippers along the route. What's down at the end of it now, all gentrification and residences?

The east end of that side track does indeed end at Orient Way, just before the high end homes that occupy the Benedict Steel property. I didn't check to see f the connection to the Kingsland branch is still there. I know there was talk of paving it over.
