Passenger Trains > US DOT todayDate: 04/15/25 12:50 US DOT today Author: cutboy1958 Secretary Duffy pausing all rail grants. Against his word at confirmation. Looking for that 'bad' DEI in the grants. More race to the bottom. Rail Passenger Association explains it better.
Date: 04/15/25 13:36 Re: US DOT today Author: joemvcnj Is he pausing grants to air and road projects of other means of transportation ? No.
He said last week on a UTA commuter train that public transit should not be a partisan issue, then shows that it is. Date: 04/15/25 13:39 Re: US DOT today Author: wabash2800 Well, if he was appointed to be a loyalist. that is all you need to know.

are now proven right, and quite quickly. Meanwhile, road and air grants will continue.....and maybe expand! Date: 04/15/25 15:20 Re: US DOT today Author: ronald321 I remember being called "Chicken Little" by some blind railfans over my
calling Duffy an enemy of Amtrak, and expecting him to do something ant-passenger rail All you had to do was look at his past anti-Amtrak voting record. Now we must wait for negative announcements from AmManagement itself of the the train-offs, and other cutbacks they will make to please Musk. (Remember that Musk phone call to Amtrak?) Clever of him to let Amtrak sign its own death warrent. (instead of an Amtrak Chainsaw Massacar). Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 04/15/25 15:54 by ronald321. Posted from Android Date: 04/15/25 20:40 Re: US DOT today Author: BobB As best I can tell this is old news that came out again today because of a Rail Passengers Association fundraising email. Duffy apparently has frozen existing already awarded grants in the fear that somehow, somewhere, somebody who isn't a white man might get a decent position (that's what anti-woke really means in this administration). That appears contrary to his promises at his confirmation hearing, but what else is new?
Date: 04/16/25 02:33 Re: US DOT today Author: Chessie1963 And my guess is that the funds have now been released again if there were no issues. This has happened to various agencies over the past month. There is nothing that concerning to me here, at least not yet. I think we all need to remain vigilant.
For those worried about a recision of Amtrak funding, don't. NPR and such may get a recision. Howver, NPR gets 99% of its funding from sources other than the feds. All recisions have to go to Congress. As will any recision. And while some of you talk about "loyalists," which I find a bit silly, I can guarantee that defunding Amtrak would not pass Congress. Period. It will all be ok. Several vacant positions within Depart of Transportation, so I don't expect any serious policies from the DOT for a while. Duffy does have a Deputy, for independent thinkers who are willing to (privately) make educated guesses, but don't say anything - you'll be labeled a tinhat by link-addicted folks who are intellectually lazy. But yes, quick research confirms your assertion that he's a loyalist. Despite the panic in this thread, DOT will be conducting business as usual until the political dust settles down. That might take years... so I'm eating popcorn in the meantime. Date: 04/16/25 21:06 Re: US DOT today Author: KurtBWNews Source, please. It's a thing with me. Thanks!
