Amtrak train #48 at Buffalo
Author: EL833

A night train through my area of Ohio, I took the time to photograph it farther east in daylight at Buffalo, NY, 05-01-2025. It has just passed through CP Draw.

Thanks- this was shot from the South Park Ave bridge. Lots of rail history in those tracks, NYC, PRR, Buffalo Creek, NKP...and with what I believe is a former Lackawanna right of way on that abandoned overhead bridge.

Great shot Roger - thanks for sharing!

The bridge in the background is indeed ex-DL&W - it carried the Lackawanna's tracks to their Buffalo waterfront station (which also was the terminus of Nickle Plate trains), as well as some other dock facilities.  The station itself, an impressive structure back in the day, was razed sometime in the late '60s/early '70s I believe - however the elevated structure which upheld the station tracks (and the Bush train sheds) still exists, and is now the main shops of the Buffalo Metro Rail.

Back when my brother lived in Buffalo in the late 80s/early '90s, we used to take pictures directly from that Lackawanna bridge.  I've included one taken from the bridge of an NS RoadRailer train back on April 3, 1991.  I don't think it is currently accessible, but I haven't been there since the early '90s.  Amazing how little has changed in that particular area over the last 30 or so years.

Nice shots.  Only things that changed are the vegetation getting bigger and NS no longer using Buffalo Jct yard behind the right shoulder of both photographers.

Nice angle that displays the full train well .

It's been three decades since I've been there. Used to be a lively location. Isn't the Tesla plant off to the right?

I also haven't been there in at least two decades.  Looking at Google Maps the Tesla plant would be to the left in both photos on the other side of the Buffalo River.
