Thanks, Seth— excellent series! I was a 7 yr-old kid with my family in April ‘71 riding ICRR’s “City of Miami” from Chicago to its namesake city and our car was the “Belleville”— an 11-BR sleeper built by P-S in 1953.
The “Belleville” would someday be rebuilt into the “Imperial Leaf” seen here in your fine photos. A couple of years ago, I was switching these two cars at the Oakland coachyard and a friendly attendant welcomed me aboard. I told him my story and he said that was a first for him— meeting someone who rode it during its Illinois Central years.
Would be interesting to see if anyone else on Trainorders has a similar experience to share?

The former IC "Belleville" is owned by Charter, but named "St. James Place", which runs with a former UP dome, named "Charter Club".  The "Imperial Leaf" is a former C&NW 4-4-2 sleeper of the same name.  The "Golden Moon" was an SP 4-4-2 sleeper built for the Golden State Limited pool, with the same name.  Both cars were built in 1942.
