Passenger Trains > Project 430 — The Gates Are Going Down

The signal is green, the gates at Sage Road are just starting to lower, and the train's rear end is bathed in golden light as number 27 scoots west at Milepost 62, just 2.9 miles from the Ritzville Depot, and home of the Ritzville streaming camera.

The train has just passed an advance speed board, indicating a 50 mph limit 2-miles ahead; and on the right, a pile of Ritzville wheat at the Templin Terminal awaits loading onto a train.

There are so many things going on in this photo that it's hard to pick one favorite, but I think it's the lowering gates that makes this photo for me.

I snapped this shot at 4:59 a.m. yesterday.

Project 430 — which refers to the time I set my alarm to in the morning to get out trackside in time —  is my ongoing summer solstice project to capture number 27 around Ritzville at sunrise. The project began in May, and will continue until sometime in July.

If you can tell that from such a distance you have better eyes than I do.

Yea, it is hard to tell at that angle.  But this particular train was SO dirty that you could actually tell from pics and videos.  I just keep holding out hope on the matter.
