Help is requested with paying for parking at the Norfolk VA station

Back in March, Amtrak (or the city of Norfolk  ) took away the spacious, safe, paved,  and free adjacent parking lot at the Amtrak station to allow the construction of a casino. They replaced it with a nearby, much smaller paved lot located in a gully under a highway overpass. And they now charge $10 per day.

The parking is paid for through ParkMobile. Well, I am in the PM website and it says you can only pay for 24 hours in advance - kind of akward for anyone parking for a multi-day trip.

Am I doing something wrong (besides thinking that anything to do with Amtrak is logical or easy)?

Thank you for any advice.

Sounds like this lot is not meant for "long term" parking.

There's only one lot. Maybe this is Amtrak's devious way of discouraging trips longer than one night.

Many of the NJ Transit lots don't allow multi-day parking. I have to drive 3 stops from the closest station to home for multiple days. And as far as rules, rates and enforcement (ticket/tow), Parkmobile will tell you the municipality controls that.

Some internet information: Parking long term at the airport garage or lot is about $12 a day, taxi to the train station is about $30.

Of course light rail does not serve both.

That's assuming Amtrak owns the parking lot. Which they don't.

I note the ParkMobile website now lets me choose up to 30 days parking. (I did nothing different from earlier today). Might have been a software glitch.  Or, possibly, does someone at Amtrak read TO?

Thank you all.

I guess you'll find out when you get back.

An Amtrak agent in Norfolk told me several weeks ago that reserving a spot on Park Mobile doesn't really guarantee a space will be available. The deal between Norfolk and the folks building the adjacent casino didn't set aside enough spots for the growing number of Amtrak passengers.
