The morphing of Amtrak 51 - 7/3/25
Author: JPB

Amtrak 51, the Cardinal,  is one of the more dynamic Amtrak trains from an enroute consist perspective. In screen capture 1 from Virtual Railfan's Covington KY live cam at 0016 Thursday 7/3/25, Amtrak 51 features a typical 2 coach + Amcafe + Sleeper + Dorm Sleeper consist.
Screen capture 2 from the Cincinnati Railroad club's live stream 1 cam atop Cincinnati Union Terminal shows Amtrak 51's ALC #354 during its 9 minute dwell at 0148. Lastly, when 51 showed up on VR's Lafayette live cam at 0747, it had a whole other train of deadhead cars (P42DC 62 leading 1 bag plus 4 Superliners and 2 Surfliners) appended ahead of the revenue consist.

OT: if one were to spend time watching the Cincinnati RR club's live stream 1 cam Thursday AM, one might see Norfolk Southern's newest heritage unit commemorating the D&H, NS #1080, switching the intermodal yard as job T05.

Should make note. One of the superliner coaches is one of the 6 leased to California for the State Corridor services.

I think 34951 was repainted into the Pacific Surfliner Colors. And I think all but one of those 6 coaches are now in Surfliner Blue?
