Passenger Trains > Caltrain's San Jose Galleries Wait Their TurnDate: 07/03/25 17:21 Caltrain's San Jose Galleries Wait Their Turn Author: milepost20 Recent additions to the Caltrain stored gallery cars at the old SP Newhall Yard site in
San Jose bring the total there to 41 cars. The Schellville fleet was 49 cars which confirms the press reports that 90 cars will be headed to Lima. The gallery roster attached here (screenshot from Caltrain's website) lists 93 cars. With two cars still at CEMOF in San Jose and a single car in San Francisco that accounts for the entire fleet. The JPBX 922 and 927 were attached to the north end of the cut at the Santa Clara station last Friday(yes, six days ago). They are idling away presumably to maintain air pressure. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 07/03/25 17:22 Re: Caltrain's San Jose Galleries Wait Their Turn Author: milepost20 Any explanation why Caltrain would need to maintain air pressure so far in advance of the
UP pickup? All photos taken today 7/3. ![]() ![]() Date: 07/03/25 18:03 Re: Caltrain's San Jose Galleries Wait Their Turn Author: goduckies Yeah why can't they just tie it down?

On FB I read a post that the galleries are supposed to be moved on Monday. But unless we hear more wouldn't put any stock in that. They have rail access right along their piers / wharves.

I think Pier 80 is the only only that could have accomodated rail-ship loading and it's leased to PASHA, the auto importer. The tracks on the interior of the pier--the backlands it might be called?--are covered in automobiles. The aprons are clear and accessible but the RoRo ships that call here need a place to dock so that would limit options I'm guessing. I heard Levin Terminal/Richmond Pacific had the facilities to accomodate the loading. But they might not have made an effort to get the business? |
