Passenger Trains > Acela train set 2029/2026 gets a tow - 7/3/25

Amtrak ACS-64 Sprinter tows a disabled (?) Acela trainset with power cars 2029 and 2026 (with pans down) south past Railside's New London CT live cam at 1748 Thursday 7/3/25. Don't know anything more about this rare move other than the deadhead train passed Virtual Railfan's South Norwalk live cam at 2006. Anyone know any details?

They are practicing for future service???? Sorry, I just could NOT resist. 

These Acela 1.0 train sets, although only 25 years old, are considered obsolete now. Sad, but true. Their ontime performance has not been what it used to be at all. The train sets are failing quite often - again, sad because I have a hard time understanding how 25 year old train sets could not get more life out of them........but I've certainly accepted it. 

The Acela 21's were planned to have been in service and replaced the original Acela fleet several years ago , budgets,equipment planning and maintenance levels were made.   
As delays  continue  , Amtrak has to deal with keeping the 2000s in service and able to maintain the schedules. The BOD meeting at the end of July will address the expected Acela 21s roll out , again.... 

Breaks my heart to look at these filthy, filthy. trains.

Yes, the filth is just ridiculous and inexcusable. It tells passengers Amtrak doesn’t care before they even set foot on the train.

Seems like Amtrak STILL has a ways to go to get the Next Generation of Acelas launched. Test trains can't keep schedule and the speeds are not what is expected - so far. Hopefully it gets better!!!! The new fleet can't come into revenue service soon enough - the Next Generation Acelas.

What's the problem? I think the new equipment has a higher  horsepower / weight ratio than the original Acela equipment.

Oh brother, thing someone should mention is are they gonna finally go back to 'All Weather Mode' starting this year?
