Delayed 98 from MIA
Author: DocJohn

Anyone know details of mechanical problems that caused almost two-hour delay in 98 leaving MIA this morning?  What are the using for motive power?  I'm riding from DLD to NYP today.

Well, this is not very "telling" but per Amtrak alerts - Mechanical Assessment - delayed departing Miami due to a mechanical assessment with the locomotive.

If only Amtrak had about four ALC42s (LD Chargers) available for each train assigned an ALC42. Then Amtrak can just keep all four prepped ahead of time for a "Mechanical Assessment" so they have a 1 in four chance of getting just ONE to operate. Keep cycling it around with a team of "Mechanical Assessment" folks. Course the LD trains need two locomotives........ Keep a team of dedicated Amtrak employees to do ALC42s "mechanical assessments" at their terminals. They sure bought enough of these lemons, yet I know not all are delivered and turned over the revenue service yet......

Appears that the Silver Meteor train #97 (6) is on the move, but operating about 2 hours late into Sebring, FL......

Thank you.  Looks like 90 minutes late at DLD.

Both are ALC-42's with the trailing unit being 301 that broke down 3 or 4 days ago when it was leading the Floridan coming into Florida. In my opinion they need to send then back to California so they can figure out what is wrong and fix it.

Sending 301 as the second unit on a train which should have two units strikes me as an awful idea.

Just send it back to California...

They need to send them ALL back to Siemens and tell them to keep the garbage. Just wait until the Airo sets replace the Amfleets. Amtrak is committing suicide by putting all their eggs in the Siemens basket.

Okay. Finally on 98 with 301leading. Train not reversed at MIA and had baggage car at two sleepers ahead of 9810. DLD station agent had us waiting in wrong location. Train crew has to help us push the luggage carts to almost north end of platform.

Even with 301 in the lead we are making good time.
