Anyone ever read or hear about a group of Amish porters with the railroad years ago?

             Horses pulling the baggage cart would be quite unique, would be interesting to see. No problem here.

No, I thought they were almost always African-Americans.

Wouldn't a "Porter" at a train station be a Red Cap?

The Amish have people drive them to/from the train station for the train they are boarding or de-boarding. Is this what they are referring to as "Amish Porters?" They don't leave the horse and buggy at the Lancaster, PA, Elkhart, or Whitefish, MT train station for a week while they take a trip to visit family or attend events out of town. They are typically picked up in vans at various stations from what I've seen.

SOU had station porters at some stations until the late '70's. They got Southern Crescent windbreakers at some stations about late 75.

Took care of the baggage room, loaded the floats and ran them up train side and loaded the floats back at train side and drove them back to the station. Handled the remaining express, company mail and paychecks, remains, company freight, dining and lounge car supplies, station supplies, and disabled passengers. Did or helped with janitorial work, outside cleaning, and lawn work. Ran errands. Took care of the tractors and tow motors.
