98. Finally made it to Savannah and more
Author: DocJohn

if 301 is a bad locomotive, then 317 must be doing all the work. Slow orders and failures to get passengers on the train promptly seem to be the problem. CSX seems to have forgotten how to keep track in good alignment.

Is there anything positive on your trip?

Thank you for asking,

Yes, on-board train staff super.  If there were any problems with motive power, they weren't noticeable.
Air conditioning and HEP worked as they should

As usual, engine change in Washington took far longer than necessary.  Didn't leave until 9:13 a.m.

Looks of track work needed to smooth out rough spots,

John

I'm glad Amtrak agents are starting to enforce the rules regarding baggage to mitigate this damage.

Overweight packages were an issue in the UPS strike discussions.  I believe the weight for a single driver assignment is now 70 pounds.  Used to be 50 pounds. More than that, you need two people.

I don't think Amtrak has on train baggage clerks anymore.

OSHA says anything heavier then 74 pounds is a two person lift.

Heaven forbid a company do something above the bare minimum to protect its workers!

Thank you. My neighborhood gets a two person crew on Fridays, only. That may be the reason.

More likely higher volume of stuff being shipped/received and the second person helps keep them on schedule.
