Just a couple weeks ago I was riding on a trail in the north woods of Chicago along the Milwaukee line. At that point the trail cross the tracks along with Dempster Street. Gates just started clanging as I crossed eastbound and since I like to watch trains I waited on the other side. There were two trains. The southbound train cleared and a couple cyclists approached from the west and instead of stopping as I was expecting they just barged through and nearly hit the northbound. They cleared by maybe a hundred feet. The MAS at that spot is 70 or 79. So what, a second. Dumb mothers. Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/28/25 14:34 by Jonny_Chi. All you have to do is stop, look and listen, then proceed if clear. Are humans losing their ability to be aware of their environment???

If an app, nav system, or AI doesn't tell them what to do or look for, they have no idea. The machines are getting smarter while humans become dumber. No AI on that car. No adaptive cruise. No lane control. No self driving. No nothing. You gotta drive it. Only thing it’s got I don’t want is an automatic transmission. No sticks anymore sadly. It can all be turned off or not turned on in the first place. Date: 07/28/25 16:48 Re: amtrak #5 kills bicyclist Lincoln Nebraska Author: MaryMcPherson PHall Wrote:

Cruise control I have found is more fuel efficient so with gas prices as they are, it's a no brainer on that one. Maybe a lot more attention to it in driver training courses would be a good idea.

In today's society, most drivers act and believe that they are the most entitled and important driver there is. No red light, speed limit, yield sign, lane merge or emergency vehicle with lights flashing and sirens blaring is going to hinder them. The occasional railroad crossing does not stand a chance. Sadly, most bike riders I see and encounter have that same entitled attitude.
