Passenger Trains > Coast Line ShutdownDate: 07/29/25 18:40 Coast Line Shutdown Author: ATKCentralCoast Have heard that Amtrak's Coastline, used by the Coast Starlight and a couple Surfliners, will be shut down starting this Fri, Aug 1, thru Aug 16. Replacing 100 year old bridge at Honda, near the Surf station. Busstitution or reroute the CSL?

Date: 07/29/25 19:43 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: P I thought this might be in reference to the Tsunami warning for tonight. Is that affecting any rail service?
More importantly, is it actually a warning for the coastal US? Posted from Android Date: 07/29/25 20:34 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: ts1457 P Wrote:

No - advisory Date: 07/29/25 20:58 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: jimB At the predicted after midnight time it hits, shouldn't be any passenger trains on the coast. The expected sea level rise of one foot during low tide may not be a worry except maybe at Elkhorn or North of Alviso, if at all.

Also for those wondering, the starlight will be cancelled south of OAK afaik. The days of giving a rats ass and detouring are long gone. Date: 07/29/25 21:56 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: PHall pdt Wrote:

Well, if the bridge is out of service being removed and replaced, exactly how do you expect the train to get across??? Date: 07/30/25 02:39 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: pdt for those of you who were absent a few years ago, that last time they replaced a bridge on the SBA sub (narlon area), Freight traffic for guadalupe was routed thru watsonville jct. It worked ok..better than no freight at all. Rob said his rep at UPRR really tried to make it work. Still there were issues and a conductor with a really bad attitude who kinds screwed things up ..but still better than nothing.
Is hard for a shortline to keep their shippers and consignees when u have to go to them and say that theres not going to be any service for 16 days. Other business dont just shut down...they go to trucks. Date: 07/30/25 23:16 Re: Coast Line Shutdown Author: smvrrfan UP will serve the SMVRR from the north. One more LOF67 tonight to clean out Gemco and the rest of the inbounds are rerouted for the north.
