New Angles on the NEC

Poked around northern NJ for some different angles to shoot along the corridor.  Found a few decent ones and others that weren't good.  Here's a few samples from Labor Day.

1.  Just north of the Metropark station along Middlesex Turnpike.

2.  Acela southbound just south of the Linden station.

3.  Northbound Keystone at the Linden station.

A few at a more traditional spot, the North Elizabeth station.

669 northbound to New York and a very quick turnaround.

619 with train 43 headed to Pittsburgh dragging P42 88 along for the ride.

Class cab car 7000 headed for NYC.

Wanted to see how far along the new tunnel was progressing.  The new Tonnelle Ave bridge is almost done and work is largely confined to the actual tunnel entrance east of the highway.  With noone around for the holiday, I hung out at the driveway entrance to the old substation to capture trains in and out of the current North River tunnel.  Remember, the Hudson River technically doesn't begin until north of Manhattan Island.  North Bergen, NJ.

644 headed into the tunnel and NYC.

2007 headed south for Washington, DC.

669 again a mere 90 minutes after the North Elizabeth shot now headed back to DC.  That's a quick turnaround!

A few more at the tunnel entrance site.  Very busy piece of track.

4647 exiting the tunnel.  Outbounds are tough to get as the trains move quick and the shadow of the overpass limits a good exposure.

Former Metroliner cab car 9634 on an inbound Keystone Service train.

NJT Dual Mode 4513 heads into the city.

The blue Crayola wrapped motor was on the business end of that Keystone train.

Nice way to spend the holiday.  I like your shots.  It's hard to find NEC places that aren't grown up with vegetation or fencing or limited access buildings.

Those are a lot of cool angles, many of which I've not seen before. The Corridor is a fascinating piece of railroad...old and new and everything in between. Arguably the nation's most valuable single piece of infrastructure.  Exceptional.  And undercapitalized.  But progressing slowly!  Thanks for sharing.
