Passenger Trains > CTA Uses 102 Years Old Cars For Their 78th BirthdayDate: 10/02/25 10:14 CTA Uses 102 Years Old Cars For Their 78th Birthday Author: DHarrison On Oct. 01, 2025, the Chicago Transit Authority celebrated its 78 birthday by using its102 year old rapid transit cars to give rides arount the downtown Loop 'L' tracks. The two-hours train stopped at all Loop stations. My personal notes on the rides included...CTA workers have new safety vests.....They used the motorman's door to board passengers, that was never done when cars were in service.....At the last stop, Washington/Wells, everybody had to leave. The Heritage Cars accepted a Purple lineup at Tower 18. HF cars headed north to Skokie.

And they only charge the standard $2.50 fare to ride the historic cars. They have a retro station at Quincy which makes for good photos.

Is there any video of these cars taken in a station? Does anyone have pics from inside the cars? Date: 10/02/25 20:58 Re: CTA Uses 102 Years Old Cars For Their 78th Birthday Author: ctjacks Search YouTube for the 4000 series cars on July 20 2023 for many videos inside and out.

The Lake Street Line ran at ground level thru Oak Park and used trolley wire until the line was elevated onto the Chicago and North Western right of way in 1962. Also, the Evanson Line had ground level running and trolley wire until converted to third rail after the 4000s were retired. > Is there any video of these cars taken in a > station? > Does anyone have pics from inside the cars? > Date: 10/05/25 18:15 Re: CTA Uses 102 Years Old Cars For Their 78th Birthday Author: DHarrison |
