Passenger Trains > 20 (31) Having a rough go of itDate: 11/01/25 16:17 20 (31) Having a rough go of it Author: Amtrak-P42 From my best attempt to interpret this they had a troublesome unit that eventually they set out.
1. They had mechanical issues with one of their units early on in the trip out of ATL that they resolved (or so they thought) that cost them 2 hours. 2. 12 hours later the Issue came up again south of Lynchburg for 20 minutes but they got it resolved, only to have it come up again north of Lynchburg and they got caught for another 2 hours-and they had to set it out "Locomotive adjustment" is a new one. 3. Then 2 hours after that the crew died and they got stuck south of Culpepr for 3 more hours waiting for that. Now 7.5 hours late limping into DC. 1/01/25 12:47am EDT _ Mechanical Assessment: As of 12:45 AM ET Train 20 is stopped _ north of Atlanta (ATL) due to crews performing a mechanical _ assessment. Or swapping out the power altogether? Date: 11/01/25 19:50 Re: 20 (31) Having a rough go of it Author: Chessie1963 It got even worse. The thing is now over 8 hours late at DC.

Do they run them back to back or elephant style ? Way to piss off NS now that they are doing a better job of running it after they were sued. Pot calling the kettle black. With thin extra boards it may not be a given that qualified people are ready and nearby. Date: 11/02/25 08:20 Re: 20 (31) Having a rough go of it Author: GenePoon The next question: Why thin extra boards?
Oh, right. Saves money for executive bonuses. Date: 11/02/25 16:38 Re: 20 (31) Having a rough go of it Author: twropr i have some info on what happened. First, near Norcross, GA the train got stopped by a detector and the lead truck of the second unit,
SLC-42 Charger 336, had a ht wheel. Not sure what the crew did to get the train going, but it travelled another 450 miles to Sweetbriar, VA, where the same problem re-occurred. 336 was probaly set off there. Lead engine was ALC-42 326. Andy Date: 11/02/25 17:56 Re: 20 (31) Having a rough go of it Author: Jimbo Thanks for the additional info. Sweetbriar is between Lynchburg and Charlottesville, so there is still the delay north of Charlottesville. Maybe the locomotive was not set out until north of Charlottesville.

Apparently it's not necessary for them to "place a hold" or be "working ahead" to delay a train: now they just have to be somewhere nearby.
