Passenger Trains > PV Tioga PassDate: 11/09/25 22:25 PV Tioga Pass Author: MrChew Car was on the move between Los Angeles and San Diego this weekend and I grabbed a few shots.
I had hoped to get it in Del Mar but heavy fog curtailed shooting in that location. These were all taken between CP Rose and CP Miramar on the San Diego Sub. Video is in Slo-Mo... Love seeing Tioga Pass out on the road!!!
Are the two Superliners in the consist operating as Business Class cars, or regular coach cars? Just curious if anyone knows! Date: 11/10/25 07:25 Re: PV Tioga Pass Author: nsrlink time for some new paint on that thing

The California Cars started moving down from the Central Valley to give some badly needed capacity to the Surfliners as the new cars enter service and the Superliner Coach has been there for at least a decade now. Well since there is no Surfliner Business Class car in the consist it's pretty safe to say that at least one of the Superliner Coaches is operating as the Business Class car. Well the Pacific Surfliners have operated with two Superliner business class cars in the consist in the past. But not sure if they made the Superliners that operated in central California more of a high density coach, or kept them in the normal LD Superliner type seating. IIRC the only difference between the Capitol Corridor/San Joaquins cars and the Surfliner cars was the paint scheme. Date: 11/11/25 14:49 Re: PV Tioga Pass Author: jp1822 PHall Wrote:

Thank you for that info! I wouldn't be surprised if the two Superliner coaches were both operating as business class coaches. Amtrak can fill these cars, so use it to their advantage with supply and demand models to have two business class cars, as has and had been done for while. Other passenger railroads have more than one premium class car in a consist (e.g. VIA Rail Canada in the eastern corridor etc.). |
