Budapest Trains/Buses
Author: sethamtrak

I am on the way home to the US from Budapest. I found a "cheap" (under $3,000) round trip Polaris ticket to Budapest which would get me the last 6 segments needed for United 1K status. And I was off this week, so why not.

Here are some photos from this weeks adventure. There is no train service to/from the airport. They use a 100E express bus to three stops downtown stops. The service was very frequent and the bus clean. Even on the way to the airport this morning at 04:45 there was only a 10 min wait between service. During the week there were clean and frequent subway trains. I'd say every 2-5 minutes on each line no matter 7am or 9pm at night. I'll attach photos of the subway trains, and the ground level trains. Long story short, between the numerous buses and trains running every few minutes, you can get just about anywhere. It felt like most every major street had had either a bus or train station nearby.

Over ground line, regional rail at Déli station X2

Oktagon station, where line 1 crosses the 4 and 6 trackage. Old timey designed stations on line 1. I rode end to end of fun on my way to the Christmas market.

Clean and frequent subway service. I waited about 1 minute for a train around 9pm.

The next day - cable car rides to the top of hill where the parliament building and art museum are perched.

While still on the Buda side, I took the 19 train to dinner at Felix Restaurant, not far from the parliament building. I waited 2 minutes for a 19 train. And about 5 minutes on the way back after my meal. I connected to a bus across the bridge to a stop a few blocks away from my hotel near the Basillica.

After dinner I went back to the hotel for a bit then went out to a bar recommended by a friend. I waited about 5 minutes at 9:30pm for a number 3 train, an connected to line 2. I waited just a few moments at Deák Ferenc Tér station.

On the 100E bus to the airport this morning at 04:45. The buses show you how long you have until your connecting train, so you can figure out if you need to run down the escalator or not. And yes you are reading that correctly. Subway service every 10 minutes each way in the middle of the night, how awesome! There were a lot of people on my bus to the airport for the "kickoff" flights.

To my surprise, the gate led to stairs and down to the ramp where passengers in group 1 an 2 were ushered into a waiting bus to take us to the handstand where the Brussels Airlines A319 awaits.

Brussels Airlines "The View" lounge while I await my United flight home. A clean, spacious and modern lounge. Enjoy the Budapest  city and train photos.

Really neat! Looks cleaner than any transit here one typically finds in the USA.

Fun to see the transit vehicles and also the places that drive their use.
