Too bad Amtrak has resigned itself to try and keep any of these legacy Acelas in good working order or fixing what legacy sets they can from the cannibalization of the retired units....... By TMZ Staff November 30, 2025 An Amtrak incident in Rhode Island caused unexpected delays Sunday when a train caught fire right in the middle of the post-Thanksgiving travel rush. A Providence city spokesperson tells TMZ ... the situation involved three unoccupied passenger rail cars at the Providence Amtrak Station. The cars were moved and firefighters extinguished the fire safely. Amtrak Police say the fire appears to be mechanical in nature and not suspicious. Providence Police assisted with crowd control after the station was evacuated due to smoke coming from the tunnel. Officials confirm no injuries were reported. We've reached out to Amtrak for comment ... so far, no word back. https://www.tmz.com/2025/11/30/amtrak-train-fire-prompting-evacuation/ Date: 11/30/25 12:31 Re: Amtrak Fire in Providence, Rhode Island Author: mvrr10 On Track On Line indicates this is trainset 12 , power cars 2037 and 2006 . Let the train be checked out before you bury it .

Date: 11/30/25 15:11 Re: Amtrak Fire in Providence, Rhode Island Author: mvrr10 2263 - Business Class BOS-NYP @ $424 , First Class @ $596 . the cheapest fare to NYP today was on Next Gen Acela # 2271 BC @ $ 178. The lowest NER Coach @ $ 286 . Several NER trains were sold out . Acela FC was at $ 596 on all nine Acelas .

Every time I see glimmers of hope at Amtrak, it all gets dashed to bits but continued demonstration of incompetence. Date: 12/02/25 04:14 Re: Amtrak Fire in Providence, Rhode Island Author: jp1822 Welcome to one of the top mysteries of the year for Amtrak.......And the Next Gen Acelas do not have good on-time performance, even with longer schedule than the legacy Acelas. But aren't they supposed to go faster and be better than the legacy Acelas? Hmmmm..... So far - VERY disappointing.......This is not the same energy and vigor of launch when they had the legacy Acelas debut - and dominate the Amtrak frequencies and schedules. They were constantly replacing more and more Metroliners with the legacy Acelas and it seemed a bit exciting - at the time. Let alone Amtrak was trying new frequencies - a late night Acela departing NYP or Washington DC, etc. Amtrak marketing and operations were being dynamic and stepping outside the box of how they had run their predecessor - the Metroliner!
