It's GE's Silverliner IV's -50th- birthday!
Author: Mgoldman

They are getting old... they are old, and tired. They are problematic...

Of course!  They were part of an order for the Penn Central, 50 years
ago to be specific!  50 years!  I'll bet we won't get 50 years out of the
Korean Silverliner V's.  Well done, GE!

The Sun sets on SPAX No. 395, in more ways then one, captured here,
soldiering on through the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia in February,
2025. Captured back in February, 2025:

and for 35 of those 50 years, they were the "new cars"  of the septa MU's.      I miss the SIlverliner 2's and 3's.  Much smoother lines than the 4's, being boxier, and having the humps on the roof and the side door plugs.

No, it's their 51st birthday;  2024 was the 50th, celebrated by SEPTA, and TO had some photos and posts on the subject.

I missed the party??  Thanks for the correction!

Grok 5.0 suggests they entered service in 1974 - first
units unveiled on February 21st, 1973, with deliveries
spanning 1973 to 1976.  I had read that the particular
unit featured above entered service in 1975 so in that
case - Happy Birthday No.392!

/Mitch.
