Hiawatha Cancellations 12/2/25
Author: sethamtrak

I was making my way home from Dupage airport yesterday when the gates went down at Dempster street in Morton Grove. Little did I know that it was a 50 minute late Hiawatha 334 running on approaches behind an inbound Metra. Charged 4604 died near Milwaukee airport, it was riddled with fault codes. Not sure if it was still making HEP. Thank goodness for the passengers, the Hiawatha now runs with two engines, since the 90200 and 90200 don't run anymore. Could've been a Wolverine 2.0 situation (but luckily close to a major city).

Trains 335 and 338 were cancelled to allow for engine 519 to be tacked onto the north end for trains 339 and 342. Train 339 ran on-time with many "suits" onboard. Those who use this train to commute. This train would've been delayed if 335 was allowed to leave an hour late. Passengers for 335 were ushered onto 7 and 337. Luckily 8 was early and was ordered to hold in Milwaukee and run as 338 making local stops to Chicago. Here is train 339 arriving into Glenview last night. 519 has a nice horn. 514 is still holding down the east end of the other Hiawatha set. So there will be a few "dash-8 to dash-8" meets on the Chicago to Milwaukee corridor today.

Oh the challenges of winter.  When passengers from train 338 are put onboard #08 where do they sit?  I'm guessing it is like stories my mom told me about WWII - you sat on your suitcase.

I hope AMTRAK and the states are realizing how bad the CHARGERS are, and that they never buy any more of them.
