Mardi Gras Route Question
Author: Amtrak288

When you arrive at the Gulfport, MS station, you'll cross a diamond with the CPKC Gulfport Branch.  When I rode on these trains last August (all four trains I rode were excellent), I couldn't help but notice that the diamond appeared to be set up in such a way that trains on the Gulfport Branch could not cross the CSX NO&M Sub that we were on.  So is the Gulfport Sub out of service in that area?  Also, on the east side of the Gulfport Sub, next to a parking lot, there are cobble bricks that run next to that line that look like they were part of a station platform, was there a train station on the Gulfport Sub at that location at one time?

That's exactly what it is, I learn something new every day!  Thanks Mike!

CPKC does run south of the station to service the Port of Gulfport. It's just a few blocks further south.
It has been a long time (pre-Amtrak) since any regular passenger trains ran north from Gulfport, so I'm not sure what the red brick sidewalk is for. I doubt it has been there that long.
Thanks for riding the Mardi Gras!
