He's saying you wont find any west (south) of Las Vegas NM till you get on the northern side of Alburquerque.

Actually, to my knowledge BNSF doesn't have any customers from Trinidad, CO south to Rosario, NM. There is a coal mine immediately south of Trinidad that operates intermittently and at Rosario (located east of the I-25/railroad overpass) I believe there is an asphalt plant. Because BNSF still owns and operates the line from Lamy to Trinidad an occasional ballast train can be observed on the line, and there are just a very few of the original semaphores still in operation there.

I'm not sure how recent the current Google satellite view is but it shows tank cars at the asphalt plant at Rosario.
