Can't make up this level of stupidity.
Author: GenePoon

Happened on METRA Milwaukee Line

The identity of a man found deceased near railroad tracks in Libertyville was released Monday, January 5, 2026 by the Lake County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Allen Chiquini, of Mundelein. There has been an updated to the manner of death. Earlier on Monday, January 5, 2026, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Mr. Chiquini died from blunt force head injuries consistent with being struck by a train. However, additional investigation, including review of video evidence, determined that Allen Chiquini was aboard an earlier northbound train, but he thought he was on a southbound train. After realizing he was on the wrong train, he attempted to open the regular passenger doors, but his attempts failed. Next, he found a way to exit through the rear door of the last train car by climbing over the safety barrier gate. He succeed climbing past the safety barrier gate, and was able to exit through the rear door, and positioned himself outside the moving train. Next, Allen Chiquini either fell, stepped or jumped off the moving train, resulting in his fatal traumatic injuries.

Seriously, you have to wonder if he even had a ticket....I've seen many sketchy types get onboard CAPITOL CORRIDOR trains here in California, ride for a while, and exit, before the conductor even gets to them for a ticket.  It went on long enough that the conductors are aware of it now and look for those types early on.

How do the investigators know what a deceased person thought? Evidence showed he thought he was on a southbound train?

A few years ago (Feb13, 2022) a 32 year old was found dead along the Metra Electric tracks in Chicago. It was later determined that they had been riding on the outside of a South Shore Line train and hit a hand rail at 51st St. There is no way of telling the intent ... were they trying to get a free ride to 57th St? That might be possible inside the car if one gets off before their ticket is collected (most ticket collection occurs south of 57th St and I have seen conductors still working cash sales after Hegewisch).

I would not say that anyone who exits a train while it is in motion is thinking clearly.

Nobody said he was thinking clearly. Other news reports said he boarded a northbound train when he meant to go south, and that is when he started trying to find a way off the train. The police don't usually let on everything they know when talking to reporters. Other passengers or the security cameras may have captured him saying "I meant to go the other way" or something like that. Who knows. Given the police were very careful not to imply intent when stating he "jumped or fell" to his final end, we can assume they must have fairly solid evidence he got on the wrong train if they are stating it so concretely.
