South Shore Monon Corridor Testing
Author: kevink

In preparation for the start of revenue service, NICTD has been running trains to test the system and ensure it is ready to go. I caught a pair of two-car trains meeting at the siding south of 173rd Street on 1/30/26 and the train in the siding accelerating north after the meet.

Getting close but no firm date for starting revenue service yet.

According the Post-Tribune,  the Monon corridor will have a press/politicians event on 17 March as a new Pres/GM of NICTD takes iver.    presumably revenue the next day.

A press event is a good sign. Hopefully an opening will be announced soon (for those of us who need to plan to be there).

I’m hoping it’s open by late May when I need to go stay in downtown Chicago. It would be great to drive from Indianapolis and park my car at Dyer and take the train the rest of the way instead of paying outrageous parking in Chicago. I just hope they provide for multi day parking at Dyer, if they don’t it’s a major fail.

Well then, you'll be happy to learn that free parking will be available at Munster-Dyer.
