58 (20) Tows 390 (21)

390's IDOT Charger apparently died while at CDL (they bustituted) so 58 towed the dead train to Chicago.  Here they are at Homewood about 7 hours late having endured coupling the trains, "municipal officials" (I presume police activity), getting stuck behind a disabled freight north of Kankakee and even after they got underway it still took forever to get to HMW.

Two sleepers for axle count. Nice!

How is it that CN and Amtrak cannot deal with the shunting issue?  Seeing so many Superliners on a train that does not need anything near that is ridiculous.  Do any other railroads have this issue ( I ask that sincerely).

The issue of why the trains don't has been beat to death and I am not going to get into it.
However concerning those Superliners they could be out making thousands of dollars per day on real trains.

It reminds me of riding a Michigan train in the early days of amtrak when a sleeper/cafe was used for the food car,
the rooms were empty and off limits and it was standing room in the two coaches.

The Carbondale trains are the travel choices of last resort, the passengers would ride if the top speed was 30 mph.
Pull the superliners off and run at the max of 65 mph.

Waiting for the chorus of "we can't do that because..." from the amtrak midwest boosters.

After many inquiries among the experts on here, nobody can tell me how much longer the trip would take with a
max of 65 mph and does the 65 mph only apply within a certain distance of road crossings.  Maybe someone at NARP
has run the numbers.
