Passenger Trains > AmeristarrailDate: 02/25/26 17:31 Ameristarrail Author: Chessie1963 It is possible that this has been discussed, but I missed it.
Reading the most recent Passenger Train Journal this evening I happened upon a one page story about Ameristarrail and their idea to remake the NEC. It is odd to me that this even exists. Is this the next step after splitting Amtrak into three divisions. Could wel lbe. https://ameristarrail.com/ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/25/26 17:35 by Chessie1963. Date: 02/25/26 17:36 Re: Ameristarrail Author: GenePoon This came long before the split-in-three and Amtrak has already said to them, "NO."
The split-in-three comes from USDOT, and Amtrak can NOT tell them, "NO." They could try using NARP/RPA as a mouthpiece to object, ostensibly expressing the opinion of "railroad passengers." Date: 02/25/26 17:40 Re: Ameristarrail Author: Chessie1963 Right. So is DOT in on this in some way? We discussed the possibility that the split was a precursor to privatization, and this fits the bill.

I don't have much hope for passenger railroading in the U.S., but I trust the AmeristarRail team more than the mess Gardner left behind at Amtrak. No speculation of "what's next" from me. Beyond my control, and I can use less things to worry about. Date: 02/25/26 17:57 Re: Ameristarrail Author: pdt This is old news. Wants to acquire amtks most successful parts, and leave the pieces for someone else.
Going nowhere IMHO, unless they have enought money to bribe the usual politicians who will do anything for a big buck "political contribution" Date: 02/26/26 00:58 Re: Ameristarrail Author: joemvcnj It is a cherry picking hoax by Scott Spencer. No one but a few foamers are taking it seriously.
It abolishes the Acela concept except for non-stop NYP-WAS trains hourly in 1 hour 59 minutes, expanded Next Gen trains to run half hourly with 3 classes of service, 3 minutes dwell time in NYP on BOS-WAS trains, and numerous WAS trains extended to Ronkonkoma (LIRR). It all means massive change order expenses to both Next Gen Acela and significant cuts to committed Airo orders. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/26 01:57 by joemvcnj.
