Passenger Trains > Chasing Amtrak Regional 99 by Live CamDate: 02/26/26 02:51 Chasing Amtrak Regional 99 by Live Cam Author: JPB After a service outage on the NE Corridor on 2/23-2/24/26 due to a blockbuster Nor'easter, Amtrak's Acela and Regional trains resumed running on Tuesday afternoon (I think). Here are 3 screen grabs of Wednesday's southbound NE Regional train 99 led by ACS-64 #640 screen-captured from Railside Live's live cam at East Greenwich at 0959, Railside Live's New London live cam at 1102, and Virtual Railfan's South Norwalk live cam at 1240.
Rhode Island was hammered with TF Green Airport (11 miles from E Greenwich) recording 37.9" of snowfall surpassing the infamous Blizzard of '78's mere 27.6". To add insult to significant injury (eg, many streets remained unplowed in RI the day after), there was an additional inch of nuisance snowfall Wednesday morning. After departing Boston 18 minutes late at 0838, train 99 was operating about 45 minutes off schedule passing E Greenwich, a bit over an hour late at New London, and an hour plus late at S Norwalk, where skies began to brighten. Note that both of 640's pans were up at E Greenwich and New London but only the trailing pantograph was in use at S Norwalk. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/26 02:58 by JPB. Looks like 99's consist was inside at Southampton St. long enough not to have much snow stay on it . The first trains out usually have a double pan order per the dispatcher , there would have been enough Metro-North traffic west of New Haven to not need the second pan up to clear ice ,etc. .
