Passenger Trains > NPCU 90406Date: 02/26/26 13:59 NPCU 90406 Author: AndyBrown A friend of mine noticed the F40 NPCU on the rear of one of the Amtraks at Elkhart this morning (0856am) if anyone's interested. I thought that it usually hung out in Chicago but must've been out east lately.
Andy Date: 02/26/26 14:02 Re: NPCU 90406 Author: NPRocky That was part of Amtrak's display train and is the only ex-F40 NPCU with a working (at least it WAS working at one time) head end power plant. I'd be interested in seeing where it's going. Empire Corridor, perhaps?

Bummer if true. Andy Date: 02/26/26 15:21 Re: NPCU 90406 Author: mvrr10 Andy - thanks for the answer . Albany , Boston or New Haven don't have any NPCU s and I doubt Albany wants to lose a P42c ( 9700 is out on the West Coast still I think ) to Maine . The usual solution is a P42 or even a GP38-3 as was done last year .

I heard it's got issues and is headed to Beech Grove. Whether or not it will be repaired remains to be seen. 90221 and 90200 have not been repaired.

I got a really good photo of 90406 at CPF-241 near Dover, NH last March. There are three Amtrak baggage cars in Strasburg RR Company RR's Yard out in Pennsylvania. I have always wondered if they are the former display cars that were part of the "Amtrak anniversary train." I believe they were acquired by Strasburg RR in the past two or three years - a recent purchase, per say.......Or perhaps these baggage cars were acquired by a private company and await work at Strasburg's Mechanical facilities there - not sure.
