Passenger Trains > Chief 1003 major delaysDate: 03/09/26 11:31 Chief 1003 major delays Author: Cardinal13 Does anyone know what is causing the major delay on SW Chief (3/7)? It appeared to start having problems in ABQ and then lost 9 hours between Gallup and Winslow, and is now stopped between Flagstaff and Kingman ove 12 hours late.

Engine was finally removed around Winslow, causing a major delay and backup for BNSF. The ABQ based operating crew also died (maxed out, no one died!) on hours of service laws and had to be replaced. Train went on west with one P-42, but has had to navigate through the BNSF traffic from the backup.

Date: 03/09/26 14:45 Re: Chief 1003 major delays Author: Cardinal13 That's encouraging. I'll be travelling on it next Thursday and hope their mechanical issues are resolved by then. I've had two previous trips delayed greatly due to Chargers.

Date: 03/09/26 17:38 Re: Chief 1003 major delays Author: NPRocky Can you imagine how late the Southwest Chief would be most days if Rob Krebs hadn't managed to mostly double-track BNSF's Southern Transcon?

Nope, we have family on the train and they are going to be in Fullerton a little over 12 hours late from the looks of it. Beef stew to the rescue!
