Passenger Trains > Amtrak/NCDOT service to Rockingham NC SpeedwayDate: 03/13/26 12:41 Amtrak/NCDOT service to Rockingham NC Speedway Author: scraphauler Amtrak and NCDOT are running a "Rockingham Special" on 4/4/26 from Raleigh with stops in Cary and Southern Pines to a make-shift "station" outside the gates of Rockingham Speedway for the Saturday April 4th NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series North Carolina Lottery 250. They ran service last year for Nascar's return to the legendary track, and ran multi-day service to nearby Pinehurst in 2024 for the US Open golf tournament. Equipment will be a Piedmont trainset. Line is the CSXT "S Line", route of the Amtrak Floridian.
Of note for the race, this will be the "controversial" debut of Garrett Mitchell, aka Cleetus McFarland, in the O'Reily series, driving the #33 Tommy's Express Car Wash Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. If you don't know who Cleetus is, Google him. The Perfect Ride to the Rockingham Speedway | Amtrak |
