South Shore Monon Corridor Opens 3/31/26
Author: kevink

Now that it has been offically announced, I can share that NICTD’s South Shore Monon Corridor will start service at 11:45 am on March 31, 2016 after a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Letter from out going NICTD President Michael Noland:

Thanks, kevink, for posting both links.

Michael Noland's upbeat letter was a pleasure to read.

If I travel to Chicago this year, I will take a ride on this line.  The schedule information is appreciated.

For a very nice historical photo taken in this corridor check out Mary Bernard's photo of the Lake Cities at the Monon/Erie depot in Hammond* (second photo in this thread):

*Yes, I know the Erie Lackawanna line, now a trail, was located east of the Monon alignment being used by the South Shore, but I feel the scene is interesting, particularly with the depot (no longer standing).

Not only is the ex-EL a bike trail, the Monon Trail runs along the new Monon Corridor from Douglas Street in Hammond down to Fisher Street in Munster. In fact, with only some minor detours, one can use both trails along with the Pennsy Greenway Trail (former PRR Panhade Line) to make a round trip via Griffith, IN.
