Texas Eagle Pool
Author: RU412

No wonder we have been seeing P32s on 21 & 22 lately.

The P42 pool has been scattered far and wide:

53 is on train 4
55 is in California
57 is in California
59 is on train 48 in the east
58 has been touring the countryside but is back
69 is also in California on the same train as 57.

That leaves the pool with 56, 58, 61, 62, 63 and 68

Some of those engines were running in the California Zephyr 5/6 rotation. 57, 58, 59, and 69 do come to mind.

Engines 59 and 100 traded spots on Lake Shore Limited 48/49 with CZ 5/6. 100 went out on 5(1) leading.

1340 today is an ALC42 with 517 trailing. One Hiawatha set is a ALC42 south and P42 north. Also 100 went out leading 5. This is how you know Chicago is in shambles.

This is a remarkable piece of work. I knew the Eagle had it's own locomotive pool (I can't remember the special type of equipment that's required on at least part of the Eagle route) but I didn't know the exact engine numbers.

I saw 56 on Sunday on 1021, I think I could put my fist through the holes rusted in the carbody in several locations

311 was on the Eagle today. Looks like Amtrak is wanting to swap the Texas Eagle over to the ALC-42s. Which would make sense for releasing so many of the 50 and 60 series to the rest of the system.
