AMTK 304 Down for for the count.
Author: scraphauler

Wednesday 4/1, the northbound Pametto powered by 304 collected a garbage truck in Kingstree SC, doing a fair amount of damage to the 304.  https://www.live5news.com/video/2026/04/01/video-highway-patrol-investigates-crash-between-garbage-truck-train-kingstree/

No injuries to crew or passengers. Garbage truck driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Usual story. Private crossing, no protection other than a stop sign. That's visible in the video.

I've seen a ALC42 & P42DC back to back, so they both have the same dimensions.
But why does the P42DC cab look much higher up and safer than the ALC42?

Looks doesn’t mean it’s true, the Charger is actually designed with a crumble zone to protect the engineer, the P42 doesn’t have any protection besides being “high up.”

Hitting a garbage truck at speed is a pretty good test of how well the engine crew is protected.  So is the Delray Beach FL collision where BrightLine 109 destroyed a fire pumper. The engineer walked away, the fire crew were hospitalized for various lengths of time.

Perhaps some liability for wrecking a train.

That's up to the Legal Department.
