Passenger Trains > Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose jobDate: 04/03/26 05:25 Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: JPB Anybody know what this unusual NS westbound move was at Elkhart at 0040 Friday 4/3/26? As captured from Virtual Railfan's Elkhart live cam, ALC #300 with obvious nose damage is being towed west past the crowd at the Amtrak station waiting for a 45 minute late Lake Shore Limited.
The most recent Amtrak grade crossing incident in South Carolina on 4/1/26 involved ALC-304: Amtrak crashes into garbage truck in SC Anyone? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/03/26 05:34 by JPB. If so, it will take more than a locomotive dermatologist to repair. Date: 04/03/26 07:23 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: RU412 300 struck a water truck in California on June 28 2023. The second loco was P42 74.
300 may be an insurance jobbie while 74 is in LA being cannibalized for parts. Date: 04/03/26 07:24 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: Lackawanna484 I wonder if it is on the way back to Siemens in CA?
I've been told that newer ALC units, BrightLine units, etc are contracted to Amtrak in Delaware for repairs Date: 04/03/26 15:47 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: GP40 Lackawanna484 Wrote:

I'm a little dismayed to see that after so many months they still have some work to do. I caught 300 in Cleveland several years ago on its delivery voyage and it was dismaying to see the class unit and one of a handful in the all too brief Phase VI get knocked out of commission so quickly. There weren't many Phase VI units to begin with, and fewer now. Date: 04/03/26 18:44 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: sethamtrak Lackawanna484 Wrote:

I wonder if they will modify the front end for a more easily replaceable nose cone? Date: 04/04/26 06:01 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: restricted_speed cozephyr Wrote:

If you're on facebook, do a search for "amtrak garbage truck collision". There is security camera video footage of it. That's a different incident, involving a different Amtrak loco. Date: 04/05/26 07:52 Re: Amtrak ALC 300 needs a nose job Author: restricted_speed toledopatch Wrote:
