Passenger Trains > #50 with an extra sleeperDate: 04/05/26 08:09 #50 with an extra sleeper Author: Chessie1963 Happy Easter!
I caught the Cardinal on the Glendale webcam (I rewound), and it had an extra sleeper. It was not tacked on the rear behind the baggage dorm but between the first sleeper and the bag dorm. Hmm. It would be great if Amtrak decided to add a sleeper, but I am not sure that is it... Date: 04/05/26 09:37 Re: #50 with an extra sleeper Author: jp1822 Holiday only?
Were there any major mis-connects in last couple days (I know the train operates tri-weekly) where they needed to accommodate more people for some reason? In general, the Cardinal needs a full Viewliner Sleeper year-round (like it typically had in peak season pre-2017). Then move the two Viewliner Bagg-Dorms in teh Cardinal train set pool, and take two Viewliner Dorm/Sleepers out of "reserve" to the Silver Meteor to add needed capacity!!! If they can't find two Amfleet II coaches or two Amfleet I Business coaches (or even an Amfleet I for short hauls, which I feel is doable), then the least Amtrak can do is bulk up the sleeper capacity on the meandering Bird. The Bird has has MULTIPLE turnovers enroute per sleeper class. We can only hope it would be full-time! And that overnight sleeper service could be restored on the NEC with at least one reasonably scheduled Viewliner Sleeper tacked on to a NEC Regional train that makes sense for the overnight Washington DC to Boston.......I know, asking too much here!!!! But I am GLAD that Amtrak hopefully has the second Viewliner on #50 in service. |
