UP Passenger Cars/Trains
Author: FishinJeeper

I'm not a UP guy or much of a passenger train guy.  I just saw today that there is a UP Officer's Special Train running around and the 4014 is out and about with a passenger train as well.  Do they just have a fleet of cars to pick and choose from, or do they keep these two trains separate unit-style passenger trains?  Also, where do they store these cars?  Thank you for all your help and time.

UP has a pretty extensive collection of passenger cars for use by the company for things like the 4014 Special or for hosting customers, engineering inspections, etc.  I'm sure there's a list out there somewhere on the internet of all the cars.  Pretty sure home base is Council Bluffs, IA.  The fleet they have is well maintened and looks sharp, it's always fun to see it - especially when I stumble on it by surprise.

go to www.uprr.com their corprate site and click the link to their heritage page and they have a list of all their special locomotives and passenger cars they have.
Home base is indeed at Council Bluffs in the old CNW yard where they built a 4 track wide shop to maintain the cars.

See https://www.up.com/about-us/history/heritage-fleet/historical-equip. Cars seem to be assigned as need, which means that business cars, deluxe sleepers and inspection cars are generally seen only on business and shippers trains. Other types may be seen anywhere, as needed. UP used to have five flat coaches for excursion and employee family days; they donated four to the Railroad Heritage Museum of Midwest America so for coach accommodations they're now down to one (Texas Eagle) and the two dome coaches.
