Passenger Trains > Colorado Goes With COCODate: 04/06/26 12:21 Colorado Goes With COCO Author: ATSF1129 The Colorado Connector that is….
For the name of its passenger rail network, the CDOT has picked the Colorado Connector, “CoCo” as its branding. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/colorado/news/colorado-front-range-passenger-rail-name-vote-results/ what's interesting is they went with a very Siemens "Airo" train for this promotional image (on a very good looking train)... A Tip of the hat? Date: 04/06/26 12:28 Re: Colorado Goes With COCO Author: okcrr Obviously just a promotional image but I know during the town hall meeting I went to it was suggested that they would like to look into Amtrak operating the train as a partnership with Amtrak would allow for easier equipment purchasing and such as they could piggyback off of Amtrak's buying power or existing order book. Not sure if that is the correct interpretation but that is what I got out of it.

colorado has about a 18 billion budget iirc, and a 1.8 billion shortfall it will be interesting if these rail projects move forward on time, with next year seeing the ski train go daily year around hopefully with superliners Bustang which get under 20% farebox recovery needs funding as well, which is a great program in my eyes, filling gaps with no train or bus service Date: 04/06/26 15:03 Re: Colorado Goes With COCO Author: dtom348 What manufacturing options do they really have? Sure they could write their own procurement specs do their own procurement and acceptance process hoping for Stadler, Siemens and others. Or KISS theory, they can add on to an existing order with Amtrak pick different colors and some small changes, then write a check for the delivered product.

Lets get some competition out their on the corridor routes (not commuter routes) and see what happens with service, reliability, etc. etc. I am not trying to be mean - I just think it would be good to see what another operator could or couldn't do. Call it competition and capitalism!
