Overnight parking at MARC New Carrolton?
Author: pennsy3750

We're taking the kids to DC in a couple weeks, and so I'm wondering if anyone here knows for sure if multi-day parking is allowed in MARC's garage at New Carrollton in Maryland?  Internet searches yield conflicting information that say its either limited to 24 hours, or up to 7 days is ok in the original garage only.  A Google Street View search shows signs that say 24 hours max, but I've been led to believe a more recent policy change says otherwise.  Anyone know for sure?

I feel that MARC is intentionally vague about overnight parking in their lots to prevent abuse. Every experiance I have had points to overnight parking being formally or informally allowed, especially with reduced commuter demand.  For example I left a car parked at the MARC Odenton lot as part of a larger Amtrak trip from a Wed through to the following Monday with no ill effects. In comparason to New Carrollton the Odenton lot is free so maybe consider parking there.

The lot in Halethorp is usually open 24 hours each day and in general is a very safe place to park.  However, keep in mind that no matter where someone parks a vehicle these days, there are all kinds of crooks just waiting to steal it if they can get away with it.

Depending on where you're going (and not tied to Amtrak specifically), it looks like Greenbelt (which is at the end of the Green (and half of the yellow line trains)) on the same side of DC does have some long-term parking oficially designated.

From https://www.wmata.com/service/parking/
  • Multi-day Parking: Planning a longer trip? Metro has four stations that offer a limited number of long-term parking spaces in designated areas (up to 10 days on a first-come, first-served basis, with no additional charge beyond the regular fee):
