Passenger Trains > Amtrak Considers Lockboxes for Guns on Most TrainsDate: 05/01/26 23:54 Amtrak Considers Lockboxes for Guns on Most Trains Author: GenePoon Amtrak Considers Lockboxes for Guns on Most Trains
The proposal would expand firearm storage to more than 1,500 trains a day as critics warn it could weaken security. Amtrak is considering allowing people to store guns in lockboxes on most of its trains, which critics argue would weaken security measures due to recent events. The company has been contemplating this policy change since early this year after pressure from Trump administration officials. Authorities report that a man traveled by Amtrak with firearms intended for a violent act related to a recent event. The proposed rule change could allow passengers to bring guns aboard trains nationwide, rather than just on those with locked baggage cars. https://ground.news/article/amtrak-may-make-it-easier-to-bring-guns-on-its-trains-despite-the-alleged-attempt-on-trumps-life Date: 05/02/26 00:22 Re: Amtrak Considers Lockboxes for Guns on Most Trains Author: GP25 I remember when Amtrak got the gun cabinets for the staffed stations.
And when they got those gun carts. Which never seem to be used. The one at Van Nuys. Hasn't been used to check guns on the trains. Did Amtrak ever put gun cabinets the new Baggage cars? I wonder if they enforce the policy on the trains? I really am not in favor of huge changes brought on by one most assuredly nutty character's ridiculous attempt. Pretty soon everything will be under the control of the TSA whose main function, it appears, is to keep after-shave off airplanes. I really wonder when those characters hit on an idea floated many years ago by a colleague in the airline industry: "Keep passengers off airplanes and the hijacking situation is solved!"

Every flight I take supports the notion that this approach is being implemented throughout the industry. Each time, I am treated less and less like a passenger, more and more like a low-priority air freight parcel.
