Passenger Trains > Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last NightDate: 05/05/26 10:10 Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last Night Author: CrossTieWalker First, at 22:12 (10:12 pm) last night in Anaheim CA, a Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 593 heading to Los Angeles with a wrapped coach I'd not been aware of yet: CDTX 6906 promoting Ventura ... I think. That choice of font isn't the most clear, particularly as a train is speeding by.

Make it easier on this aging brain not having to make the conversion. I refuse to use military time in my posts.
Date: 05/05/26 11:14 Re: Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last N Author: CrossTieWalker I have to think about it, too! My wife keeps saying "It's easy, just add twelve to get that time, or subtract it to go back to the old way."
Then I have to remind her that I suck at arithmetic... (Ten? Sure, that's easy to do. But twelve? Nah...) Saw this yesterday at San Luis Obispo on
train 757. Who is responsible for getting this car(s) back to original paint scheme? And how soon does it get done? Posted from iPhone Edited 1 time(s). I assume Amtrak pays for the repainting.
Perhaps others know more. Craig Date: 05/05/26 12:00 Re: Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last N Author: CrossTieWalker Here's a better photos of Amtrak California coach 6453 (Pacific Beach) wearing a wrap promoting the city of Ventura, on the Pacific coast northwest of Los Angeles. This car is in service on the LOSSAN Corridor, on which operate Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner passenger trains between San Diego, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara/Goleta (and San Luis Obispo) - with ten of these trains stopping in Ventura each day. Date: 05/05/26 19:25 Re: Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last N Author: Gonut1 Thanks for the posts. Also thanks for giving us 12 hour time stamps. I too suck at even simple math! My doctor says, "You are an engineer (electro-mechanical) you must be good at math?". I'm not, the simple Texas Instruments hand-held SR-11 Calculator and the Machinery's Handbook got me through learning Trigonometry (I had to design a gear train and calculate gear centers). So many years ago! 24 hour clock is a PITA unless you are enlisted and live with it 24/7. And as a teenager I was a Sea Scout (Think Boy Scouts with boats) We worked on maritime time, 8 Bells, three times daily' try that!!
Final math note, my older son always complained about how much he hated math. I was always confused as he Aced everything math. His explaination was it was boring. I hated it because I was taking a report card home 6 times a year with usually failing grades and a hot fanny (The Good Old Days, NOT)! He persevered and is an electrical engineer in a Union Pacific facility in, believe this, Pennsylvania (Likely to be UP home territory as the merger becomes reality). This all makes my head hurt. What also makes my head hurt are those awful wraps promoting you can't tell what. I'd like to get paid real money to create what is about as readible as a grafitti smeared autorack. I've made out well in my profession (Aerospace and Military Communications). I'm still at it at 80. I'm thinking if I retire my brain will turn to mush.Did I say thanks for sharing? There are a lot more industries/circumstances/jobs that deal with things being listed in UTC than just the military. I am in IT. I see it and read it many many times every work day. When you are dealing with global entities... Date: 05/06/26 10:06 Re: Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last N Author: PHall Gonut1 Wrote:

I suggest that you not go to Europe to vacation then where the 24 hour clock is the standard. Date: 05/07/26 16:48 Re: Two Amtrak "Surfliner" Wraps on Two Consecutive Trains Last N Author: chakk I set all of my digital devices on 24-hour clock, so I don''t have to remember to say "A.M." or "P.M."
I think many of the countries in the Eastern and Southern Hemispheres also use the 24-hour clock as standard. Hakk (living in Arizona, where we also don't "spring forward" or "fall back"). |
