Lakeland Station
Author: sethamtrak

The three day work venture that I am on has me on a Lakeland, FL overnight and home to Chicago tomorrow. By the time I landed from Charlotte and got my rental car, I had missed the Floridian. So an after dinner stop was in order. Enjoy.

That's a nice selection of pictures, thanks for sharing.

The growth in and around Lakeland is amazing.  But there are still lovely pockets of older neighborhoods.  The Florida Southern college campus is an amazing collection of Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings.

As I completed my walk along Mirror Lake, I was heading back to the hotel when I saw two young fans on the platform with tripod. I turned around and then going back across the tracks I saw an approach medium. I went back and asked them what was coming, and they said CSX 911 and CSX 1900, both leading. I honestly thought they were kidding, but they were not. They met each other just west of the depot. Enjoy these two crappy screenshots clipped from video footage.

The CSX stuff good!
The Amflop was well, Amflop.
Chain up the otherwise beautiful station works.
SAD.

Beautiful station.

I wonder if people who have used the station have had any problems with it.

I never had issues at Lakeland. Station has very friendly staff. Agent called passengers to ticket window in 1st class to let them know which location on platfoem to board. Easy to access from street has a waiting room with benches

I don't know if it is still the case, but many freight trains bypass the current Amtrak station line. They rejoin the main down by Wilkinson street / Winston yard in southwest Lakeland.
