Food near Ft Worth station?
Author: Woodman

I am planning a trip on the Heartland Flyer from OKC to FT Worth for our model train club for a Monday in June. My question is there a place to eat that is not too far from the station in FTW.? Is there anything we can see or do during hte five hour layover?  Thanks for any info.

Subway Sandwich has a location in the Fort Worth Station.  MiCocina is a Mexican food establishment at 509 Main Street.  Risky's BBQ is at 300 Main.  There are a couple of other places that others may know about and share.

Try The Flying Saucer about a 10 minute walk from the station. Great food and great selection of ales. Or go the other way under the subway through the car park, onto the main road and there’s lots of options up there.

I was there a few months back - here's what I can say ...
The north end of the Station is at 8th & Jones.  Walk west from the station on 8th, and head over to Main Street - that's 3 blocks west of the station.
Then head north on Main; most of the "walking distance" things to do are on Main, between 5th and 2nd.

The Sid Richardson Museum is at 3rd & Main; it houses a nice collection of western art.

As for food, Jakes was good for burgers & beer, as well as for local delicacies such as chicken fried bacon - recommended by cardiologists and dieticians everywhere!
Also enjoyed Razoo's for Cajun-style food and beer.

If you're a craft beer enthusiast ... we also enjoyed Cowtown Brewing, on N Hampton St, between E Belknap and E Bluff St.  It's a mile north of the station; just a 5 minute Uber/Lyft ride, and was worth the ride. Food comes from whichever food truck is there that day, and it was good when we were there.  HopFusion Ale Works, at Bryan Ave at Broadway (1 mile south of the station - another short Uber/Lyft ride) was excellent, too. Again, food came from one of the food trucks.  I'm not sure that the food trucks are there in the afternoons - so these two might be "beer only" destinations.

If the folks need good ice cream, "Melt Ice Creams" is at 700 Main (6th & Main) ... most excellent!

Have a great trip and visit!

As for “to do”, there is the Fort Worth Water Garden on Commerce St a little south of Central Station (about half way between Central Station and the T&P station). There is the JFK tribute on 8th Street only about three blocks from the station, across the street from the Ft Worth Hilton which was the last place Kennedy stayed before the assassination. The aforementioned Sid Richardson museum is well worthwhile.

There’s a Cheesecake Factory about a 10 minute walk.

The Texas & Pacific station is a gem.  If Art Deco architecture is of interest, it is definitely worth your time to enter the building.  It is about a 15-minute walk from the Amtrak station.

There are several restaurants in the Sundance Square area including the Cheesecake factory mentioned above. The "Blue Line" is a free bus that runs every 7 minutes between 7 AM and 7 PM. It runs in a counter-clockwise loop through downtown returning to Central Station, so you can simply reboard the bus from the same place you disembarked and you'll end up back at Central Station. Also mentioned above, the T&P station would be a great side trip and is only a 4 minute train ride via TEXRail.
Depending on how much time you have, you may want to consider taking TEXRail to Grapevine where there are several rail-related points of interest as well as restaurants.
The Fort Worth Stockyards also have a few rail-related items and is available via the "Orange Line" bus or a transfer from the TEXRail Northside Station. Second to Sundance Square, this is where most Heartland Flyer passengers prefer to visit on a day trip.
Also, depending non how much time you have, a "circle trip" may be possible via TEXRail, the DART Orange Line, and the TRE back to Central Station.

I would take an Uber or Lyft to the stockyards and eat at Coopers 🤤 It’s about 3-4 miles away. There are 2 or 3 restaurants there inside the stockyards and they are good as well, I just prefer Coopers. And maybe if you’re lucky you can see the Grapevine train there doing its inside street (or would it be considered walkway?) running.
