Train 80 cancelled 7/5/26
Author: scraphauler

Train 80, the northbound Carolinian, is cancelled 7/5/26.  Counterpart 79 is also showing as cancelled but as of this writing, is operating on time on the NEC.  Not sure how far south it's going before turning back to get back in position for tomorrow.  This time it's not (all) Amtrak's fault.  NS train 12R  accordioned four empty 89' flats right at the north end of the platforms at the Charlotte depot.  Both depot tracks, a couple yard tracks, and more importantly, the stub end pocket track the Carolinian equipment is parked in are now blocked and torn up.  Derailment came within half a car of getting into The Carolinian's baggage car.  Crescent and Piedmont trains are having to operate through yard and shove in or shove out to the south.  Carolinian train set is flat out trapped on its stub.  If you allow 79 to operate, both train sets would be in Charlotte tomorrow leaving no set in New York for tomorrow.  Since they can't seem to come up with a makeup train from Sunnyside, just cancel today's to keep sets in balance.

#90 is also canceled from Savannah to NYP. I see both 79 & 89 in Washington DC now, they have
that long layover. Notifications have returned and 79 is canceled between Raleigh & Charlotte.
