Passenger Trains > Sleeper George M Pullman on California Zephyr

Amtrak's 32009 refurbished First Class Sleeper named George M Pullman has been on the California Zephyr western trains for the last month or so.  July 6, 2026 at Big 10 west of Arvada, Colorado, Amtrak 32009 was westbound on CZ train #5.

There also was a reasoning for numbering it # 9 but I cant remember why

Once again, AMTRAK changes to another paint scheme, with NOTHING matching.  And the older pinstriping was far more attractive.  There is NOBODY at AMTRAK who seems to have a sense of aesthetics / design / style.

I have to agree. For a company that is supposedly limited on funds, why are they pissing money away changing these stripes unless they’re deteriorated. And if they are deteriorated, they should be replaced with stripes that match the rest of the fleet. The former striping looked better to my eye too. I’m sure the average passenger doesn’t give a hoot one way or the other. They would probably like clean windows to look out of though. Which is still a crapshoot on Amtrak, although better than it was a couple years ago.

Who gives a rat's @$$ about the new exterior livery of these train cars when the interiors need to be worked on - specifically the Viewliner I sleepers. Let alone getting the Viewliner fleet fully operational (e.g. OUT OF storage/RIP status in Beech Grove. So Amtrak has a nice "First Class Livery" on the exterior, but passengers enter a worn torn/tattered interior Viewliner I sleeper. This makes it even harder for the onboard staff to justify how the interior is really "first class."
