Fiasco in Roanoke
Author: twropr

Overnight Roanoke-Boston #66 did not run last night because ALC-42 Charger 310 had an oil leak.  An NS unit wound up taking the equipment
to Washington.  Passengers were bused  to Washington to connect with #198 to NY, which was held 3'21" to wait for the buses.  Passengers who were
headed towards Boston would have waited  over 3 hrs in either Philadelphia or NY for #190. If Amtrak really cared about moving their passengers expeditiously,
they would have placed a unit on the rear of Roanoke train #171, which was running 1.5 hrs LT, and given it to #66 at Charlottesville.

Assuming the Charger is inoperable would mean no HEP, right? Do you really expect Amtrak to make passengers ride in mid summer heat with no A/C from Roanoke to Charlottesville and then for NS to tie up their main line making an engine swap between 2 Amtrak trains at Charlottesville? Be realistic.

This would assume they had an extra engine in DC to give.
