Any excuse to cancel a train. It's the path of least resistance. Making other arrangements requires desire, effort and resources.

Amtrak has little of those last 3.

Back in the early 2000’s I was on the Zepher when it was rerouted over the Chicago northwestern between Illinois to Denver.

I guess those days are over

Bridge window in Iowa. BNSF is rerouting at least one Z via the Santa Fe

Most likely the Z-CHCDEN and vice versa

I've been following the Ottumwa and Creston Subs the past few days and it's definitely seems like some kind of bridge work (replacement?) in Iowa. Lincoln is still hopping with trains.

I'm guessing Creston yard was filled up with eastbounds on Sun-Mon as hardly anything appeared to have made it to Ottumwa. Only recorded four daylight trains in Ottumwa on Monday: CHCDEN, GALDMO, LINGAL and eastbound coal empties, all before 8:30AM. Today so far has seen one eastbound grainer thru Ottumwa, one westbound coal train, and the local out of Creston appears to be running.

Any idea what bridge(s) are out? One of the big river crossings or something smaller?

Thomas

My guess is the Grand River Bridge between Thayer and Afton. They have been working on that for quite sometime
