Passenger Trains > Let me introduce Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to you - RR style:

Eh - just some random commuter station somewhere in the US?

Perhaps - but it's former PRR, and while the SEPTA commuter system
might not get you all excited, it is also situated along Amtrak's four track 
main known as the Keystone Line.

I, like perhaps many, do not spend a lot of time along the Keystone line 
spanning Philadelphia (New York City, actually) to Harrisburg, PA.  The 
frequency of trains is rather sparce, on a weekday, maybe 1 Amtrak 
train per hour (which includes the Pennsylvanian) along with SEPTA's 
utilitarian commuter cars (and ACS-64 led trains at times).

My first visit was to catch SEPTA's AEM-7's before they were retired, and 
the interest and facination with the surviving structures has fascinated me 
ever since.

Here are a series of photos from August, 2026 - AM (gasp!), and PM:

We'll start with this uh... 1963 PRR built station "survivor".  Still open, serving 
passengers in the morning, and nary a donut nor slice of  pizza to be found 
inside the lobby.

Second - a web grab of what once was - the former gothic station which sat at
the northwest corner of Bryn Mawr and Morris Aves. Built in 1869, it was
remodeled in 1900 and demolished in 1963. 
 
Anyone know the reason for the demolision?  I believe unlike many, it was not 
a fire.

Now here's a building few have seen despite looking right at it... 

It's a disgrace, yet, it is preserved - so?  I recall looking at the 
roof line, the windows and thinking...  that's no ordinary "old" 
building!

Former PRR freight station - the Pullman restaurant is in fact the
former PRR freight station built in 1870. Sad yet it's fate could've
been much worse.  Prior to that, it was the Tango restaurant, when 
more of the original building was visible.

This baggage/freight house was actually once on the opposite side
of the tracks across from the original combination station. The rest
of the old station was torn down, but this portion remains.

And what's an interlocking without a tower?

Bryn Mawr Tower - or Bryn Mawr Tower for short, lol - don't
know if this tower was known by a shortened name. Built in
1986, it was operational until 1995.

It could use a lot of love.

I was on a Septa Silverliner IV in "Leaf Season". The train I was on slid riight through the Bryn Mawr station and stopped next to the tower. As the last door of the trainwas still adjacent to the low level platform it was decided to discharge and board passengers so as not to get odrers to reverse into the station. Supposidly Silverliner Vs have some method of traction control to pervent this.
Nice look around Bryn Mawr.

That line - especially between Overbrook and Berwyn is beautiful in the Fall. Wynnewood is great for a foliage leaf storm as the trains cruise through.

That last one is stunning!

Last image is IOTD material for sure!  

I've spent hours there watching trains for a variety of reasons over my life.  Yes, I do remember E44's and GG1's.  And those crossovers still sound great I'm sure.  The SEPTA Great Valley Flyer was a favorite, every weekday around 5:25 pm.  Electric power and Comet coaches bouncing over the joints at track speed.
