It's awaiting the insurance adjuster and claim after hitting the luggage cart on the tarmac in 2008.

Funny, that doesn't look like 14th St. in Chicago.  But I could be wrong.

If it was Amtrak, they wouldn't fix anything.

But they WOULD paint a new stripe down the side of it and put it back in service.

I thank God every day that there isn't an Amair or Amsky or whatever they would call it. Then again, airplane manufacturers would be kept pretty busy building replacements for all of the planes falling out of the sky. So there is that.

Planes are so favored by U.S. officialdom, I'm surprised that a plane in that condition actually exists! I have to wonder...what was its last airline, when and where was its last flight, who was the last captain to fly it, and who was the last passenger to get off.

I do have to agree.  The first to be removed from retired airliners are the engines and this still has them.

Some Spirit Airlines Airbus A321neo, a type still being delivered new, were retired at around a year old
and scrapped for their Pratt and Whitney engines, a type suffering from a manufacturer defect 
and in short supply.  Spirit did need the money from selling the engines...

Aircraft engines are sometimes financed separately from the fuselage, etc. The lenders want their asset fast when the plane changes status.

satire - yes the planes she was after were yellow, the airbuses -- think the airbuses were delivered with a choice of engines, one sucked and the other is now desired, so those planes have had their engines removed and some scrapped, think they got at least 5 years out of some of them.  The engines with those tiny planes are worth more than the fuselage, often financed separately, and some Spirit planes were owned, some leased, some are flying in Asia and elsewhere, many are that were leased are in Arizona.

In Chile, there were at least three  long retired 737s  repurposed as hook-up motels.  Join the mile high club without leaving the ground!   These planes have no engines or other valuable bits.
Two are now derelict along the road between Calera and Concon;  the third is open for business along the coastal road north of Concon.
